SA01 12:15 PM > 1:45 PM Ethical considerations in HIV prevention trials: New guidance from WHO and UNAIDS Satellite Channel 2

We live in exciting times for HIV prevention technology. Yet millions of people still become HIV infected each year. New tools that expand the choices available and that give people the power to protect themselves from HIV are needed. But such tools must be conceived, developed and tested in ways that ensure that participants in clinical trials are recruited and protected within established ethical frameworks. UNAIDS and WHO have managed a year-long process to update their guidance on ethical considerations in HIV prevention trials. The guidance is relevant to the wide range of stakeholders who are committed to seeing effective HIV prevention for everyone. The satellite will be of interest to all such stakeholders including communities, researchers, sponsors, regulators, funders, ethicists, and research ethics committee members.
